Aline Forest

A 625-ha (1544-acre) plantation forest in S Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, the Aline Forest is located western shore of Loch Seaforth, 17 miles (28 km) southwest of Stornoway, and represents Scotland's largest community-owned forest (2006). Planted by the Forestry Commission in 1967-8, the forest was purchased for £76,000 in 2006 by the Erisort Trust, a community initiative within the Lochs district of Lewis. Their intention is to develop the woodland to include walking and mountain bike trails, wildlife webcams, an equestrian centre, holiday accommodation and training facilities.
