Glanderston Dam

(Glanderston Reservoir)

One of a number of small reservoirs on the Mearns Moor of East Renfrewshire, Glanderston Dam (or Glanderston Reservoir) is situated a half-mile (0.8 km) northeast of Walton Dam, 1¼ miles (2 km) southeast of Neilston and a similar distance south of Barrhead. It extends to 7.6 ha (18.9 acres). The embankment failed in a storm on 30th December 1842 resulting in water crashing down the valley to Arthurlie, destroying property and killing nine people.
