Fara

An island of the Orkney Isles, Fara is separated by the Gutter Sound from Hoy to the west and by the Weddel Sound from Flotta to the east. It rises to 43m (141 feet) at Thomson's Hill in the centre of the island and has an area of 295 ha (729 acres). Abandoned in the 1960s, the island had a population of 76 crofters in 1891.
