Gavinburn

A western district of Old Kilpatrick in West Dunbartonshire Council Area, Gavinburn lies a quarter-mile (0.5 km) northwest of the village centre and a half-mile (1 km) southeast of Bowling. On land which was, until c.1800, occupied by two farms, there is now a large housing development, a primary school and a library. The school was built in 1887, destroyed in the blitz of 1941 and rebuilt on the playing fields of the original in 1954. It now has a roll of 323 pupils (2007). The library was established by Dunbartonshire County Council in the brick-built former infant school, adjacent to the primary school, in 1956.
