A small embayment on the west coast of the Rhins of Galloway, Port Kale lies ¾ mile (1.25 km) northwest of Portpatrick in Dumfries and Galloway. A telegraph cable was laid across the Irish Sea from here in 1852 which operated until 1983. The double-octagonal cable house remains as a monument to this engineering achievement.
