Cairn Valley

The valley of the Cairn Water in Dumfries and Galloway, the Cairn Valley is separated from Nithsdale to the east by the Keir Hills. Its principal settlements are Dunscore and, situated at its northwestern extremity, Moniaive. The Cairn Valley Light Railway connected Dumfries with Moniaive between its construction in 1905 and closure in 1953. Much of the route of the line can still be seen.
