Gardenholm Linn

A stream of NE Dumfries and Galloway, Gardenholm Linn is a modest tributary of the River Annan, situated 2 miles (3 km) north northwest of Moffat. The dismembered body-parts of two women were found in Gardenholm Linn in 1935 - at a location which became known locally as Ruxton's Dump. Through novel techniques of forensic science, the bodies were identified as the wife and maid of Lancaster-based general practitioner Dr. Buck Ruxton (1899 - 1936). A jealous man, he was tried and hung for the murders the following year.
