A small underground generating station buried in a hillside to the west of the village of St. Fillans in W Perth & Kinross, St. Fillans Power Station forms part of the Breadalbane Hydro-Electric Power Scheme. Opened in 1957, it draws water from Loch Lednock Reservoir, with a head of 253m (830 feet), together with the headstreams of the Beich Burn and the Glentarken Burn.
Originally equipped with a 21-megawatt (MW) generator driven by a Francis turbine, the station was refurbished in 2002 at the cost of £1 million, and a new generator with a reduced capacity of 17 MW was installed. The tailrace passes under the A85 Trunk Road and discharges into Loch Earn.
The station is operated by Scottish & Southern Energy plc.
