Carron, Daugh of

A tract of land in Central Moray, the Daugh of Carron lies to the north of the A95 trunk road, a mile (1.5 km) south of the settlement of Carron and 6 miles (10 km) west of Dufftown. Daugh derives from the term davoch, an old Scots areal unit of land. This unusual name appears almost exclusively in place-names arranged along an east-west axis crossing the Aberdeenshire-Moray border, of which the Daugh of Carron is the westernmost.
