Grudie Bridge Power Station

A power station which forms part of the Conon Hydro-Electric Power Scheme, Grudie Bridge is located 1½ miles (2.5 km) west southwest of Lochluichart at the head of Strath Bran in Easter Ross. The principal reservoir is Loch Fannich located 4 miles (6.5 km) to the northwest. A network of tunnels and pipelines diverts water into Loch Fannich from several nearby rivers. A further tunnel brings the water down to Grudie Bridge, emerging on the hillside a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the west and descending as a cluster of pipelines to the power station. Commissioned in 1951, the station was the work of Dunfermline-based architect James Shearer (1881 - 1962) and is built in coursed red Tarradale sandstone. It has an installed generation capacity of 18.7 megawatts (MW). Water is discharged into the River Grudie just before it falls into the River Bran.
