Highland Stoneware Pottery

A manufacturing pottery and retail outlet located in the section on Lochinver which lies to the west of the River Inver, Highland Stoneware Pottery was established in 1974 and has become internationally popular for its unique style of hand-made domestic ware. Founded by David Grant, while still a student of ceramics at the Royal College of Art in London, the pottery was established in his native Highlands bringing an important source of employment. Each piece of tableware is hand-decorated by one of a group of artists using a range of techniques, primarily brushwork, but also sponging, wax resist and scraffito. The plant includes a visitor centre, but perhaps its most remarkable feature are the collection of unusual mosaics which are embedded in a wall and are located around the car park. These are formed from broken pottery items and include a two-piece suite and a car, together with several large rocks which have been encrusted by mosaics.
