A modest hill overlooking the west coast of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides, Askervein (Gael: Aisgerbheinn) rises to 126m (413 feet) a half-mile (1 km) east of Askernish. The hill was the site of an much-quoted experiment in 1982-83 which involved the building of more than fifty masts to research boundary-layer flow in relation to wind-energy studies.
