Hilton House
A modest but important laird's house prominently located on a spur which overlooks Strath Earn from the north, Hilton House lies to the southwest of Craigend, 2 miles (3 km) south of Perth. Built in 1732 and comprising two storeys and an attic, this Category-A listed building represents a mix of the classical symmetry which was becoming popular at the time of its construction, alongside a traditional asymmetry dictated by the design practicalities of a preceding era. The windows are regularly arranged around the rubble-built rectangular structure, yet the roll-moulded doorway - with an interesting date-stone above - is off-centre. The house overlooks Hilton railway junction, a short distance west of the entrance to Moncrieffe Tunnel.
