Pabay Mor
(Pabaigh Mor)

An uninhabited island of the Outer Hebrides, Pabay Mor (Gael: Pabaigh Mor) lies within West Loch Roag, a large sealoch on the west coast of Lewis, a half-mile (1 km) northeast of Valtos and 3 miles (5 km) east of Gallan Head. The island extends to 101 ha (250 acres) and rises to 68m (223 feet). Cleared of its population to allow for grazing in 1827, Pabay Mor has subsequently supported only a seasonal population associated with fishing and tending the sheep. The island was bought by a London professional in 1983 and who restored two 'black' houses to provide a holiday residence.
