Gracemount Community Park

(Gracemount Walled Garden)

Gracemount Community Park lies next to Gracemount House, 3½ miles (5.5 km) south southeast of the centre of Edinburgh. It was created in 2001 occupying the site of a former orchard and incorporating Gracemount Walled Garden which was cleared and had its walls restored as part of the project. The work was seen as an important part of a regeneration initiative intended to tackle social, economic and environmental disadvantage in Gracemount. It was the work of Allan Murray Architects and received a Civic Trust Award in 2001. Unfortunately the work on the walled garden has not been continued and it remains in danger of falling back into ruin and once again becoming overgrown.
