A modest grey-granite memorial tablet situated at the Eskdalemuir junction on the A7 Trunk Road, 3 miles (5 km) north of Langholm. It commemorates the poet Henry Scott Riddell (1798 - 1870), who was born at nearby Sorbie.
Its inscription reads:
Erected to the Memory of Henry Scott Riddell Poet Author of "Scotland Yet" Born near this spot 23rd Sept. 1798 Died at Teviothead 30th July 1870.
Another, rather more imposing monument is located close to the same road 10 miles (16 km) to the north northeast, beyond Teviothead.
