Peden's Stone

A covenanting monument located close to the eastern boundary of North Lanarkshire, Peden's Stone lies 1¼ miles (2 km) south southwest of Harthill. The stone is named after Alexander Peden (1626-86), one of the leaders of the Covenanting movement, and is said to have been used by him and others to preach outdoor sermons. A white obelisk was erected on the stone in 1866.
