Longman Industrial Estate

A large industrial estate located a half-mile (1 km) north of the centre of Inverness in Highland, Longman Industrial Estate lies to the east of Inverness Harbour and is bounded by the Inverness Firth to the north, the A82 trunk road to the southeast and A9 Trunk Road to the northeast. An airstrip was built here in 1933 which served as Inverness Airport until it was taken over by the RAF during the Second World War. It returned to civilian use in 1945 and operated until 1947 when it was abandoned in favour of the larger Dalcross field, 7½ miles (12 km) to the east northeast. The industrial estate developed thereafter and some of the aircraft hangars remain extant.
