Loch na Muilne

A lochan amongst the machair on the northwest coast of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, Loch na Muilne is located a half-mile (1 km) northeast of the village of Arnol. There is a nature reserve here run by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) owing to the existence of Red Necked Phalarope (Phalaropus lobatus), one of Britain's rarest breeding birds. During the spring and summer, visitors can also see breeding snipe, golden plover and dunlin.
