Loch Mor

A shallow loch situated amongst the machair on the west coast of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides, Loch Mor is located a half-mile (0.8 km) west northwest of Griminish and 2 miles (3 km) south of Balivanich. The loch has a complex shoreline and includes many tiny islets. The land surrounding the loch is noted for a remarkable number of the rare Irish Lady's Tresses orchid (Spiranthes romanzoffiana). It is also know for its bird-life, including exceptionally-rare Red-necked Phalarope (Phalaropus lobatus), together with Black-tailed and Bar-tailed Godwits, Shoveler, Teal, Widgeon and Shelduck.
