Lyrawa Hill

A summit located in the east of the island of Hoy in Orkney, Lyrawa Hill rises to a height of approximately 125m (410 feet) 1¼ miles (2 km) west of Green Head and 3 miles (5 km) north northwest of Lyness. The hill offers fine views to the northeast over Bring Deeps and was the site of a large anti-aircraft battery during World War II which was intended to defend the naval base in Scapa Flow. Several concrete structures remain, along with the remains of the associated accommodation camp to the west. Betty Corrigall's Grave lies nearby, on the opposite side of the B9047 road.
