Yester Chapel

Located close to Yester House, southeast of the East Lothian village of Gifford, what was lately the family chapel and burial place of the Hays of Yester began as the 15th Century Collegiate Church of St. Cuthbert. When the original village Bothans was re-sited by the 2nd Marquess of Tweeddale (1645 - 1713) to the model village of Gifford in the late 17th C, public worship moved to the new Yester Parish Church (early 18th Century). The Hay family had John and Robert Adam remodel the exterior of the old church as their private chapel (1753).
