Whitelee Forest

An extensive area of coniferous plantation on the upland plateau which is Eaglesham Moor, between Kilmarnock and East Kilbride, Whitelee Forest spreads over the boundaries between East Ayrshire, East Renfrewshire and South Lanarkshire Council Areas. It is 9 miles (15 km) wide at its maximum and 5½ miles (9 km) from north to south. Over 900 ha / 2224 acres (or around 2.25 million trees) were felled to permit the development of the first phase of Whitelee Wind Farm (2006-09), with a further 300 ha (740 acres) of spruce trees removed for an extension to the wind farm built 2011-13.
