Loch Roan

A small loch and reservoir in Dumfries and Galloway, Loch Roan lies to the east of the River Dee, 1½ miles (2.5 km) northeast of Crossmichael and 4½ miles (7 km) north northwest of Castle Douglas, which it supplies with drinking-water. Retained by an earth embankment dam, the reservoir extends to an area of 16.2 ha (40 acres). It is operated by Scottish Water and supports a recreational fishery, stocked with brown and rainbow trout.
