Calder, Loch

A large loch in the Caithness district of Highland Council Area, Loch Calder lies 5 miles (8 km) southwest of Thurso. The loch is 2 miles (3 km) in length, 1¼ miles (2 km) wide and extends to approximately 384 ha (950 acres) in area. Receiving water from Loch Olginey to the south, the loch casts off a modest stream to the north, the Alltan Ghuinne, that soon enters the Forss Water, which flows north to Lybster. The loch supports a popular fishery for trout and Arctic Char.
