Dugland

A grassy summit of N Dumfries and Galloway, Dugland rises to 608m (1994 feet) overlooking the Clennoch Burn to the southeast and just to the southwest of Windy Standard Wind Farm, 3 miles (5 km) southwest of the southern limit of Afton Reservoir and 5½ miles (9 km) northeast of Carsphairn. At its top is a memorial to Pilot Officer David Hunter-Blair, aged 19, the son of Sir James Hunter-Blair of Dunskey and Blairquhan, who was mortally wounded nearby after parachuting from Spitfire Mk V AD540 "Blue Peter" on 23rd May 1942. He was buried at his family home Blairquhan Castle in South Ayrshire. The memorial was placed here in 1993.
