Loch Ruthven

A shallow loch to the east of Loch Ness in the Inverness district of Highland Council Area, Loch Ruthven lies 4 miles (6.5 km) south of Dores between Loch Duntelchaig and Loch a' Choire to the north and Loch Mhor to the southwest. The loch is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and Special Area of Conservation (SAC), with the eastern part forming a nature reserve managed by the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. Loch Ruthven gave its name to a Royal Navy Loch-class frigate launched in 1944.
