A loch in the Inverness district of Highland Council Area, Loch Garry lies in Glen Garry to the west of the Great Glen. It receives water via the River Garry from Loch Quoich to the west and drains eastwards into Loch Oich at Invergarry. The Glengarry Forest lies to the south. Loch Garry and the River Garry form part of the Garry-Moriston Hydro-Electric Scheme which became fully operational in 1962 with a total capacity of 113 megawatts. The loch is dammed across a gorge at its outlet and a tunnel carries water to the 20 megawatt power station at Invergarry. In 1792 150 Glen Garry crofters led by Alexander MacDonnell of Greenfield emigrated to Canada, settling in Glengarry County, Ontario.
