Harray, Loch of

A large loch on the Mainland of Orkney, the Loch of Harray lies between Dounby in the north and the Neolithic sites of the Ring of Brodgar, Standing Stones of Stenness and Maes Howe in the south. In 2001, concern was expressed that nutrient runoff from agricultural activities had given rise to algal blooms on the loch, disrupting its natural eco-system.
