A summit on the northwestern edge of a plateau which lies between Strath Nairn and Strath Dearn in Highland Council Area, Carn Dearg rises to 516m (1692 feet) 2½ miles (4 km) southeast of Milton of Farr and 5½ miles (9 km) west of Tomatin. There is another Carn Dearg situated 12½ miles (20 km) to the southeast.
