Druim na Gearr Leacainn

(Druim na Geârr Leacainn)

A modest elongated summit in the S of Ardnamurchan, Druim na Gearr Leacainn rises to 259m (849 feet) 1½ miles (2.5 km) west of Kilchoan. A cairn marks the spot where a Hawker Hurricane crashed in February 1944 killing the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Arthur John Woodgate of the New Zealand Air Force, aged only 21. The pilot was flying on a training exercise from Connel Airfield. He was buried in the family grave of his fiance in Troon.
