A spur on the southwestern side of Black Hill in NE Perth & Kinross, Carn Dearg rises to approximately 690m (2230 feet) 1¼ miles (2 km) north northwest of Loch Beanie and 2¾ miles (4.5 km) east northeast of Spittal of Glenshee. There is another Carn Dearg which reaches 786m / 2578 feet 7 miles (11 km) to the west.
