Black Esk A river in eastern Dumfries and Galloway, the Black Esk rises in Eskdalemuir Forest to the south of Ettrick Pen. It flows south through the Black Esk Reservoir, which was created in 1962, then generally southeastwards before joining the White Esk to become the River Esk just south of Castle O'er.
