Kirtle Water

A small river in E Dumfries and Galloway, the Kirtle Water rises between Castlestaff and The Dod, 1¼ miles (2 km) north of Kirtlehead, to the west of Langholm. It flows south passing the Winterhope Reservoir, which is located on a small tributary, then southwestwards through Kirtleton to Kirtlebridge before turning southeastwards to enter the head of the Solway Firth at Kirtlefoot, a mile (1.5 km) south southwest of Gretna. Its total length is 18 miles (29 km).
