Cessnock Water

A river of East Ayrshire, the Cessnock Water rises on the western slopes of Distinkhorn (386m / 1266 feet), a mile (1.8 km) west of the boundary with South Lanarkshire. The river flows southwest to a point a half-mile (1 km) northeast of Mauchline where it turns northwest for 3 miles (5 km) then westwards before briefly forming the border between East Ayrshire and South Ayrshire. It then turns northwest once again and finally northeast past Hurlford to join the River Irvine 2½ miles (4 km) east of Kilmarnock having completed a course of 14 miles (22 km).
