A small spring-fed reservoir with an earth embankment dam in Dumfries and Galloway, Buittle (or Dalbeattie) Reservoir is located 1½ miles (2.5 km) west of Dalbeattie and 2½ miles (4 km) east of Castle Douglas. Built to supply a corn-mill at Buittle Mains, it extends to 4.8 ha (12 acres) and is now operated by Scottish Water to supply of drinking-water. It also provides a popular recreational fishery based on indigenous brown trout and stocked rainbow trout.
