A small reservoir retained by a small earth embankment dam at its western end, Lochenkit is located 2½ miles (4 km) north northwest of Crocketford and 8½ miles (14 km) north northeast of Castle Douglas in Dumfries and Galloway. It is operated by Scottish Water for the supply of drinking-water and covers an area of 6 ha (14 acres). There is a small waterworks situated a quarter-mile (0.5 km) to the west.
