Picketlaw Reservoir

(Picket Loch)

A small reservoir retained by an earth embankment dam in East Renfrewshire, Picketlaw Reservoir (or occasionally Picket Loch) is located on the western edge of Eaglesham, 3 miles (5 km) south southeast of Newton Mearns. Extending to an area of 8.6 ha (21 acres), it is the largest of a chain of three small reservoirs whose original purpose was to provide water to power nearby corn and cotton mills. The High Dam remains extant, although the Mid Dam has been drained. Picketlaw Reservoir is now operated by Scottish Water for the supply of drinking-water. A recreational fishery is managed by Eaglesham Angling Association.
