A small but notable river of the N Scottish Borders, the Heriot Water forms from headstreams including the Blackhope Water, Hope Burn and Dewar Burn and flows along the southern slopes of the Moorfoot Hills for 5 miles (8 km) before turning southeast and merging with the smaller Gala Water at Haltree.
