River Ayr

The Ayr River has its source in the Glenbuck Loch in East Ayrshire, near the border with South Lanarkshire. Flowing west it passes through the settlements of Sorn and Catrine before serving as the boundary between East Ayrshire and South Ayrshire between Burnfoot Bridge and Dalmore. It then meanders through lowland south of Annbank and Auchincruive in South Ayrshire before emptying into Ayr Bay at Ayr. Its length is 40 miles (65 km) and its main tributaries are the Garpel Water, Greenock Water, Whitehaugh Water and Lugar Water.
