Avon Water Avon Water at in Hamilton High Parks©2022 Gazetteer for Scotland The Avon Water, a tributary of the River Clyde mostly in South Lanarkshire rises at Avon Head, between the summits of Distinkhorn and Wedder Hill, 6 miles (10 km) to the southeast of Galston in East Ayrshire. It flows northeastwards, forming the boundary between East Ayrshire and South Lanarkshire for its first 4 miles (6.5 km), passing south of the settlement of Strathaven and through Larkhall. It continues past Cadzow Castle and Chatelherault Country Park until it joins the River Clyde near Birkenshaw, a mile (1.5 km) east of Hamilton.
