Eskdale Upper Eskdale©2022 Gazetteer for Scotland The easternmost of the three historic districts of Dumfriesshire, Eskdale comprises the basin of the River Esk in Dumfries and Galloway. The parishes of Eskdalemuir, Westkirk, Langholm and Canonbie all lie within Eskdale which was until 1455 the domain of the Douglas family.
