Beinn Bheigeir
(Beinn Bheigier, Ben Vigory)

The highest peak on the island of Islay, Argyll and Bute, Beinn Bheigeir (also Beinn Bheigier and archaically Ben Vigory) is located 3 miles (5 km) southwest of McArthur's Head, which sits on the island's east coast, and 6 miles (10 km) north of Ardbeg. The hill comprises three summits arranged along a ridge; the highest is at the northwest of the ridge and reaches 491m (1610 feet). The others rise to 456m (1496 feet) and just beyond 460m (1509 feet). The Battle of Benvigory in 1598 saw invading MacLeans defeat the native MacDonalds and go on to ravage Islay.
