Affric, Glen

One of the most attractive glens in Scotland, Glen Affric extends in a northeast-southwest alignment to the west of Loch Ness and southwest of Cannich in Highland Council Area. It occupies the valley of the River Affric which is formed to the west by the junction of headstreams that rise on the slopes of Aonach Meadhoin and Beinn Fhada (Ben Attow). The Affric flows through Loch Affric and Loch Beinn a'Mheadhoin before joining the Abhainn Deabhag to form the River Cannich. A hydroelectric scheme, inaugurated in 1952, includes Loch Affric, Mullardoch and Loch Beinn a'Mheadhoin. There are fine stands of native pinewood currently being managed to create one of the largest continuous tracts of native Scots pine forest in Scotland.
