The second highest summit of the Pentland Hills, Carnethy Hill rises to 573m (1879 feet) nearly 3 miles (5 km) northwest of Penicuik in Midlothian Council Area. Loganlea Reservoir lies on its northwest flank. The Carnethy Five Hill Race has been held annually since 1971 and runners traverse Scald Law, the highest of the Pentland Hills, South Black Hill, East Kip, West Kip and Carnethy Hill. It is organised by the Carnethy Hill Running Club.
