Museum of Lead Mining

Located in Wanlockhead within the Lowther Hills of Dumfries and Galloway, the Museum of Lead Mining explores the 300 year history associated with lead (and also gold) mining in this area. The centre has guided tours through the lead mines, working models of mining machinery in the visitors centre, cottage museums highlighting the daily lives of the miners and interactive experiences at the Miners' Library and the Gold Panning Centre. The library was established in 1756 and is the second-oldest subscription library in Europe. A heritage trail takes in the Beam Engine, the Miners' Graveyard and the Miners' Churchyard.

The museum is run by the Wanlockhead Museum Trust.
