River Garry

(Abhainn Ghearadha)

A small river on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, the River Garry (Gael: Abhainn Ghearadha) rises as remote headstreams in the blanket peat which forms the centre of the island and flows east for 4½ miles (7 km) to fall into the Minch at Port Geiraha, a mile (1.5 km) north of New Tolsta. Its lower reaches flow through a small gorge which is crossed by the Bridge to Nowhere.
