Loch Portain

A small sea loch which is an arm of Loch Maddy in the E of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides, the entrance to Loch Portain is approached by a narrow channel which threads its way between numerous islands and islets, 2 miles (3 km) northeast of Lochmaddy. It gives its name to the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry which operates between Berneray and Leverburgh.
