Rising to a height of 448m (1471 feet) in the Lomond Hills, west Fife, the volcanic summit of East Lomond forms a conspicuous landmark on the skyline above the new town of Glenrothes. At its summit is a geographical indicator designed by the noted Scottish surveyor John Mathieson (1855 - 1945). Skirted by a pathway that traverses Fife Regional Park, there are the remains of old limekilns on the hill's southern slopes.
