Sandside Bay

An inlet on the north coast of Caithness, Sandside Bay opens out into the sea a mile (1.5 km) north of Reay and 2 miles (3 km) southwest of Dounreay Nuclear Power Station. Sandside Burn flows north for 6 miles (10 km) into the bay, while Sandside Head forms a headland to the west. Sandside Harbour and its associated fishing store and cottages were built c.1830 by Major William Innes of Sandside. There are a number of Pictish stones in the area and Sandside House dates from 1751.
